What actually differs.
This is a product comparison, not a roast. Prices are store-class, not a live scrape — check each listing before you pay. Finally is free and listed as

Finally stays pinned — swipe for the rest of the field
Finally does not claim to beat every paid app at every hobby. Skybox still wins living-room atmosphere. 4XVR still wins “throw an ugly container at it.” HereSphere still wins people who live in IPD and distortion. The gap Finally exists to close is free + local/NAS + memory that does not evaporate + no account.
The library player.
Native OpenXR. SMB as a first-class source. SIMPLE cockpit for daily transport, PRO for placement, color, loops, and stats. Per-title projection after a one-time OVERRIDE / KEEP AUTO consent. Four chroma keys with a laser picker. Private-LAN Watch Together. No telemetry.
Tradeoffs you should know: the field manual is the authority for the build in your Lobby, not a blog post. USB playback is SAF / OS-exposed volumes, not host MSC sticks. Experimental decrypted Blu-ray / MVC is a stream in the headset, not a living-room disc deck. It is not trying to be a social network or a streaming catalog.
The one people name unprompted.
Skybox is the default recommendation in a lot of “what player should I buy?” threads — environments, a polished UI, local + network, a large review base. Watch-together is a cloud product with an account. The package is Unity, so the download is in a different weight class than a lean native player. skybox.xyz claims UHD / 4K / 8K playback; the live Horizon listing talks high-resolution and HDR video, not a 5K ceiling. Public sources also list DLNA/SMB plus WebDAV, Plex, Emby, Jellyfin, YouTube, and AirScreen.
Pick Skybox if the room around the movie is half the product. Pick Finally if the files, the NAS, and the privacy policy are the product.
The format specialist.
4XVR is the native player people buy when a weird container, an ISO, or a dense format matrix is the job. The store app is free; Premium is a ~$30-class IAP. Developer copy: a 30-day trial of local 2D files, plus 5 minutes per day for 3D, SMB, USB, and other advanced paths. USB sticks, FTP/SFTP, 4X Link, SMB, and Plex/Emby/Jellyfin. Projection can recover-auto. It earns the price for power users who want every toggle.
Finally overlaps on experimental ISO/MVC and network sources, then spends the rest of the budget on a calmer SIMPLE/PRO split, sticky overrides, and staying free. If you already paid for 4XVR and it plays your library, you do not need a speech from us.
The optical bench.
HereSphere is what you buy when the picture has to be geometrically honest — depth, distortion, crop, calibration. Unreal, paid $29.99, itch.io APK around 100 MB, beloved by people who will sit in a settings page for twenty minutes to get the scene to sit in the skull correctly. Network path is SMB, DLNA, and a built-in browser.
Finally has live placement, eye swap, convergence, and a lens family. It is not pretending to be HereSphere’s optical microsurgery. Different instruments.
The simple paid player.
NEX (NEXt-Gen Video Player) is the “just play the file” option — light UI, USB sticks, SMB/WebDAV, NEX Link, a trial plus Full IAP in the $10 class (the listing is today’s price). The install is Unity-class, around 1.1 GB, not a modest native binary. NEX Link is a PC companion, not watch-together. The listing now claims MVC 3D from Blu-ray ISO; it does not lead with 8K.
Finally’s SIMPLE mode is the same instinct, with PRO still in the building when a title needs a lens fix. NEX remains the cleaner “almost no settings” paid app.
Straightforward cinema.
Moon VR Player is the older sibling in that ten-dollar band — ~$10 class plus scene/web DLC (the listing is today’s price). Local and network cinema, SMB/DLNA/USB, Moon Link, cloud. Passthrough 2.0 is a real listing feature, not a dash. The install is Unity-class. Listing copy claims 8K and even 12K.
Finally’s pitch against Moon is the same as against NEX: free, sticky projection, mixed-reality keying, and a field manual that tells you what the switches actually do.
Who should install what.
- You already keep a NAS of movies and VR180. Start with Finally. Free, SMB is a first-class source, overrides stick after consent.
- You want a virtual living room more than a file manager. Skybox.
- You collect ugly containers and disc rips and like a dense board. 4XVR, with Finally as the free experimental ISO/MVC check.
- You care about geometric calibration more than anything else. HereSphere.
- You want the fewest settings and will pay ten dollars for that. NEX or Moon VR.
Finally is the one you can try without a store receipt. If it plays your library, you are done. If it does not, the others are still there.
