Finally VR Video Player is free on the Meta Horizon Store. No subscription. No account to create. No ads in the cockpit. Optional support links live on the web manual, not in the player. You do not pay to play files you already own.
Skybox, 4XVR, HereSphere, NEX, and Moon VR are paid apps. They can be worth it. They are not required to watch a folder on a NAS. See alternatives.
No telemetry.
The privacy policy is the map. Nothing leaves your headset automatically. Optional Submit Bug Report creates a ZIP locally and sends it only after you press Send. Meta entitlement is pass/fail. Nearby discovery, Watch Together, and other optional network paths are listed there.
- Library index, resume positions, projection overrides — on the headset.
- SMB / Plex / WebDAV credentials — on the headset, sent only to the server you named. Plex Direct Play is a user-supplied local PMS URL + token; no cloud login, no transcode.
- Watch Together — private LAN between two headsets. Nothing leaves your network.
Meta still does a store entitlement check on store builds. That is Meta, not us.
There isn’t a catalog funnel.
